Commission Plan

Commission Plan is used to say which transactions should be credited to the Rep and what commissions are to be calculated. Commission calculation will be based on the amount credited or on any of the amount fields available in the transaction.

Credit Transaction and Calculate Commission sections of commission plan allows setting the condition to credit certain portion of the sale and calculate commission based on commission rate type selected. For example, you can set up the Credit Transaction section to credit 70% of sales amount on sale to particular customer and Calculate Commission section to pay 10% of sales amount.


Commission Plan Fields:

The details in the Commission Plan section have been grouped as Plan Details, Credit Transaction and Calculate Commission.

 

Plan Details

This section maintains the high level details about the plan such as to whom the plan is created, what is the plan id.

Fields

Descriptions

Rep

Name of the sales person to whom the plan is associated with. E.g. Randy

Plan Name

Name of the plan. E.g. Account Executive Commission Plan

Notes

Short description about the plan.

 

Follow the steps to add the plan details:

  1. Select the name of the salesperson from the Rep drop-down. This value will be loaded from the Rep page. If the plan has to be created for the rep Randy, select the rep as Randy.

 

  1. Type the name of the plan in the Plan Name text box. For example, type the name as Sample customer based plan.
  2. Type the short notes on plan in the Notes text area. For example, type the notes as 8% of the sale will be paid to 'Sample Randy' for any transaction with customer ACME'.

Credit Transaction

This section maintains the details what percentage of amount should be credited to the rep.

What amount is commission calculation based on

Amount from which a percent will be credited to the Rep. E.g. Sales Amount on Transaction

How much of the amount should be credited to the rep

Percentage of amount to be credited to Rep. E.g. 70

 

Follow the steps to add the credit transactions:

  1. Select any transaction fields from what amount is commission calculation based on drop-down. For example, select the credit amount as Sales Amount on Transaction.

  1. Type the percentage of amount to be credited for the rep in the How much of the amount should be credited to the rep text box. The default value is 100.

 

What transactions should be credited to this rep

This section maintains the criteria to determine the eligible transactions that have to be credited for the rep.

Transactions with the Rep already specified on the transaction

Select only those transactions that have the current Rep (against whom the plan is created) on it. If this option is selected then all the transactions which has the Rep is treated as eligible transactions.

Transactions for specific Customers

Select only the transactions that are for specific customers. If this option is selected then the transactions which has the specified customer id is treated as eligible transactions.  For example, if the sale is made for the customers ABCL or ACME, then the current rep is credited with the amount.

Transactions for specific Products

Select only the transactions that are for specific products. May give the description as given for customers. For example, if the sale is mad for the products Nuts, then the current rep is credited with the amount.

Transactions for specific Groups

Select only the transactions that are for specific groups.

Transactions for specific Reps

Select only the transactions that are for specific Reps.

Transactions matching a combination of criteria

Select only the transaction that matches a combination of conditions. E.g. Customer and Product

 

The steps to be followed to select the option in the What transactions should be credited to this rep section.

    • Transactions with the Rep already specified on the transaction If you select this option, then the transactions that have the current Rep on it will be considered for the calculation. For example, if the transaction contains the rep as Randy, then that will be considered for crediting.
    • Transactions for specific Customers If you select this option, then the transactions made for the selected customer will be considered for the calculation. Let us take an example; if salesperson Randy is to be credited for any sale made to the customers ABCL or ACME, it can be set as shown below:

a)       Select the customer from the drop-down provided at the bottom of the section, for example, select the customer name as ABCL from the drop-down.

b)       Click the plus symbol  to add another drop-down to select the customer, if needed. If more than one customer is selected from the drop-downs, then the transactions that have the selected customer on it will be considered for the calculation.

c)       Click the Delete  to delete the customer, if required.

 

    • Transactions for specific Products - If you select this option, then the transactions made for the selected product will be considered for the calculation. Let us take an example; if the sale is made on the product NUTS, then the salesperson Randy is credited.  Steps to be followed for this option:

a)     Select the product from the drop-down provided at the bottom of the section, for example, select the product name asNuts from the drop-down.

 

    • Transactions for specific Groups - If you select this option, then the transactions made for the selected Groups, it will be considered for the calculation. Let us take an example; if the sale is made for the groups Repair and Maintenance, then the salesperson Randy is credited. Steps to be followed for this option:

a)       Select the  group from the drop-down provided at the bottom of the section, for example, select the group name as Repair and Maintenance from the drop-down.

 

    • Transactions for specific Reps - If you select this option, then the transactions that have the selected reps on it, will be considered for the calculation. This can be used to set override commission. Let us take an example; if sales manager Randy is to be credited for any sale made by the subordinateAndy, it can be set as shown below:

a)       Select any one of the option in Rep is in Field. If you select the 1 option, then the value for the rep 1 in transaction will be compared against and considered for calculation. Likewise, 2 and 3 option will do. If you select the Any option, then the value from Rep 1,Rep 2, or Rep 3 fields of transaction will be considered for calculation.

b)       select the rep from the drop-down provided at the bottom of the section, for example, select the rep name as Randy from the drop-down. If the selected rep is matches with the value in Rep 1, 2 or 3 of transaction page, then it is considered for calculation.

 

 

    • Transactions matching a combination of criteria - If you select this option, then the transactions that match a combination of conditions will be considered for the calculation. Let us take an example; if salesperson Randy is to be credited for any sale made any two combinations of criteria (say Product and Group), it can be set as shown below:

a)       Select the check boxes, you want. The check boxes are Customer, Group, Rep, and product. For example, select the Group, Product check boxes.

b)       select the respective values from the drop-down provided at the bottom of the section, for example, select the group name as Repair and Maintenance, and Product Sample Nuts from the drop-down. If the selected value matches with the transaction field values, then it will be considered for calculation.

 

Commission rate type is - Calculate Commission

This section sets the type of commission rate to be used for commission calculation.

Fields

Descriptions

% of Credit Amount

Sets the commission rate per transaction. If this option is selected then system will allow entering the direct flat rate which will be applied on the credit amount to determine the commission amount. E.g. 10%. Normally, will be calculated as credit amount*commission rate

Flat Amount per transaction

Sets the commission rate per transaction as flat amount. E.g. 250. If this option is selected then system will allow entering the flat amount which will be treated as commission amount for each eligible transaction

Formula

Formula used to determine the commission rate. If this option is allowed then system will apply the selected formula to determine the commission amount.

 

The steps to be followed to select the option to set the commission rate in the Commission rate type is section.

  • % of Credit Amount If you select this option, you can set commission rate for each condition. Commission rate entered will be calculated using the formula credit amount*commission rate.
  • Flat Amount per transaction If you select this option, you can enter directly commission amount per condition and it is the final payout amount.

  • If you select this option, you can set separate formula for each condition.

 

What is the calculation formula to use on the above credited transactions - Calculate Commission

This section maintains the formula or the rates that have to be used while calculating the commission for the eligible transactions.

Commission rate same for all credited transactions

Set the commission rate for all credited transactions. If this option is selected then all the transactions will be treated as eligible transactions.

Commission rate different by Customer

Set the commission rate per transactions for specific customers. If this option is selected then the transactions which has the specified customer id is treated as eligible transactions.

Commission rate different by Product

Set the commission rate per transactions for specific products. If this option is selected then the transactions which has the specified customer id is treated as eligible transactions.

Commission rate different by Group

Set the commission rate per transactions for specific groups. If this option is selected then the transactions which has the specified customer id is treated as eligible transactions.

Commission rate for a combination of criteria

Set the commission rate per transactions that matches a combination of conditions. E.g. Customer and Product.

 

The steps to be followed to set the calculation formula In the What is the calculation formula to use on the above credited transactions section.

  • Commission rate same for all credited transactions If you select this option, then you have to select/type the value provided at the bottom of this section, based on the Commission rate type selection. For example, to pay a flat rate of 8%  for each transaction , follow the steps given below:

a)       Select the commission rate type is as % of Credit Amount and type the value as 8 in the Commission Percentage text box provided. So, 8% commission will be used for calculation.

 

         Commission rate different by Customer If you select this option, then select/type the value for the selected customer provided at the bottom of this section, based on the Commission rate type selection. For example, to pay a flat amount of $1000 for each transaction made to customer ACME, follow the steps given below:

a)       Select the commission rate type as Flat Amount per transaction and select the Customer as ACME,

b)       Type the value 1000 in the Commission Flat Amount text box provided. So, 1000 will be used as a flat amount for the selected customer ACME in each transaction.

 

 

         Commission rate different by Group If you select this option, then select/type the value for the selected group provided at the bottom of this section, based on the Commission rate type selection. For example, if the commission rate type as Formula, then select the group Repair and Maintenance and commission formula as Sample Flat Amount. So, the commission rate will be fetched using the formula and use for calculation. 

 

         Commission rate for a combination of criteria If you select this option, then select/type the value for the selected combination of criteria provided at the bottom of this section, based on the Commission rate type selection. Steps to be followed to use the commission rate for the combination criteria:

a)       Select the check boxes, you want. The check boxes are Customer, Group, Rep, and product. For example, select the Group, Product check boxes.

b)       Select the respective values from the drop-down provided at the bottom of the section, for example, select the group name as Repair and Maintenance, and Product Brake Shoes from the drop-down.

c)       Select the commission Formula as Sample Flat Amount. So, the commission rate will be fetched using the formula and use for calculation. 

 

 

Adding new Commission Plan for the rep

The user can create the plan with the details such as rep, plan name, credit transaction and calculate commission information. Assume, a plan has to be created for the rep Andy Rep with the plan name Sales Rep commission Plan and this rep has to be credited for specific products related sales.

Solution:

Follow the steps given below, to add new reps plan:

  1. Click Calculation Rules menu Commission Plan submenu item. The Plan list page opens.

  1. Click on Add New button to create a new plan. The commission plan - Add detail page opens.

  1. Select the name of the salesperson from the Rep drop-down. For example, select the rep as Andy Rep.
  2. Type the name of the plan in the Plan Name text box. For example, type the name as Sales Rep commission Plan.
  3. Type the short notes on plan in the Notes text area. For example, type the notes as Sales Rep commission Plan for Andy Rep.
  4. In the credit transaction section, select any transaction fields from what amount is commission calculation based on drop-down. The amount is taken as the credit amount from the selected transaction field for commission calculation. For example, select the field as Sales Amount on Transaction.
  5. Type the percentage of amount to be credited for the rep in the How much of the amount should be credited to the rep text box. The default value is 100. For example, type the percentage as 100.
  6. For What transactions should be credited to this rep section,  select the Transactions with the Rep already specified on the transaction  option,  to consider  the transactions that have the current Rep for the calculation. For example, if the transaction contains the rep as Andy Rep, then that will be considered for crediting.
  7. In the Calculate Commission section, select % of Credit Amount option for Commission rate type is field, to calculate the commission amount using the formula credit amount*commission rate.
  8. In What is the calculation formula to use on the above credited transactions section, select Commission rate different by Product option, to set the commission rate per transactions for specific product. If this option is selected then the transactions which has the specified product id is treated as eligible transactions. Follow the steps given below to add commission rate for two products namely Sample Nuts and Sample Bolts.
    1. After selecting this option, you will find the Product and Commission Percentage drop-downs. In the Products drop-down, select the product name as Bolts and type the value for the selected product as 5.

    1. Click the plus symbol  to add another drop-down to select the product, if needed.
    2. Now, follow the step a, to add another product Nuts and  type the percentage as 6.
    3. Click the Delete  to delete the product, if required.
  1. Click Save to save the entered plan details.

 

Note:

  • To update a commission plan details, click Edit  icon, and then change the fields you want to update.
  • To copy the reps commission plan details from an existing data, click Copy  icon provided on the Rep list page.
  • To delete a particular reps commission plan details, click Delete  icon provided on the list page.
  • To view the particular reps commission plan details, click on the required Rep link.
  • To sort the column alphabetically/ascending order, click on the required column header and click the column heading a second time, to reverse the sort order.
